At the July 30, 2025 Board Meeting, La Joya ISD School Board approved a new district policy in alignment with Texas House Bill 1481, which requires school districts across the state to limit the use of personal communication devices during instructional hours.
๐ฑ What this means for our students:
Starting with the 2025โ2026 school year, students in Pre-K through 12th grade will not be allowed to use cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, or similar electronic devices during the school dayโfrom arrival to dismissal.
๐ Devices can still be brought to school, but they must be:
โข Turned off before entering the school building
โข Stored securely, either in backpacks, designated areas, or district-issued locking pouches (depending on grade level)
โข Left untouched until the end of the instructional day
๐ Implementation will vary by campus level:
โข Elementary: Devices stored in backpacks or teacher-designated spaces
โข Middle & High School: Devices must be stored in district-provided locking pouches
โข HOPE and College & Career Center: No personal devices allowed on campus
โ ๏ธ Progressive discipline will be used for violations, ranging from verbal warnings to device holds.
This policy is designed to minimize distractions and improve safety across our campuses, ensuring that students stay focused and engaged in learning.

๐ข Nueva ley estatal genera cambios en el uso de dispositivos de comunicaciรณn personal en La Joya ISD
Durante la reuniรณn de la Mesa Directiva del 30 de julio de 2025, la Mesa Directiva de La Joya ISD aprobรณ una nueva polรญtica distrital conforme a la Cรกmara de Representantes de Texas, Proyecto de Ley 1481, la cual exige que todos los distritos escolares en el estado limiten el uso de dispositivos de comunicaciรณn personal durante el horario de clases.
๐ฑ ยฟQuรฉ significa esto para nuestros estudiantes?
A partir del ciclo escolar 2025โ2026, los estudiantes desde Pre-Kรญnder hasta 12.ยบ grado no podrรกn utilizar telรฉfonos celulares, relojes inteligentes, audรญfonos u otros dispositivos electrรณnicos similares durante el dรญa escolar, desde la llegada hasta la salida.
๐ Se permitirรก traer dispositivos a la escuela, pero deberรกn:
โข Estar apagados antes de entrar al edificio escolar
โข Estar guardados de manera segura, ya sea en mochilas, รกreas designadas o en bolsas con seguro proporcionadas por el distrito (segรบn el nivel escolar)
โข No ser utilizados hasta el final del dรญa escolar
๐ La implementaciรณn variarรก segรบn el nivel escolar:
